     The tireless philanthropic work of Ron Jaworski continues, with the help of leading sponsors Caesars Entertainment in Atlantic City, JPC Group, Constellation, Ketel One,Hyundai, DELTA Airlines, Stopain and nearly 40 other companies, when he hosts the upcoming 2015 Ron Jaworski Celebrity Golf Challenge.

       The annual fundraiser will take place from June 14-15 at the Blue Heron Pines Golf Club.  The event, hosted in partnership with the NFL Alumni Association and Caesars Entertainment Atlantic City, is the largest, most high-profile event (bringing together Jaworski and his celebrity friends including current and past NFL players) to benefit the JAWS Youth Playbook, an organization that promotes health and wellness for at-risk kids in under-served communities, as well as the NFL Alumni.

Mike Stamberger of Plainfield, winner of the past two Amateurs, leads a field of 90 qualifiers into the 114th New Jersey State Golf Association Amateur Championship to be contested, June 2-4, at historic Morris County Golf Club in Morristown.

The 72-hole event includes a number of players coming off championships, including Max Greyserman of Crestmont, who at 19 became the youngest ever to win the State Open Championship last summer at Essex County Country Club.

Other champions include Trevor Randolph of Arcola (2014 Mid-Amateur), Jay Blumenfeld of Mountain Ridge (2014 Senior Amateur), Jacob Stockl of Hyatt Hills (2014 Public Links), Nick Desai of Baltusrol (2015 Pre-Senior), Vince Palazzolo of Colts Neck (2014 Junior), and Derrick Scenna of Deal (2014 Tournament of Club Champions).

Former Amateur champions include Brian Komline of Black Oak (2010), the only golfer to win all five NJSGA majors, Mike Deo of Black Oak (2009) and Allan Small of Fairmount (2004).

Medalists from the three State Amateur qualifiers are Ryan Rose of Ridgewood & Ryan Davis of Fiddler's Elbow (at White Beeches), Dawson Jones of Jumping Brook and Reid Bedell of Manasquan River (at Eagle Ridge), and Jeremy Nevius of Metuchen (at Brooklake).

       May 27th marked another important addition to the USGA Museum in Far Hills, NJ, as the Jack Nicklaus Room was dedicated to golf's greatest player, Jack Nicklaus.

       "You don't really dominate the game of golf, you earn it.  If you don't, there is always someone there to take your place.The competition in the golf is with yourself. Don't get caught up in the moment. You need to be prepared for what comes ahead," said Nicklaus at the ceremony. "There is no excuse for not being properly prepared. If you go into something not prepared, you're going to be beat." 

       Nicklaus talked about the advice he gives to younger golfers. "Be ready to play so you have no surprises when you go into battle," Nicklaus continued as he hardly remembered the question he was orginally asked but captived the gathered invitation-only audience that included family, hometown friends, USGA members, and longtime friends of the Nicklaus family.

     Following a year-long closure, the East Orange Golf Course on Parsonage Hill Road in Short Hills will reopen on Saturday, May 23, 2015. Nine holes (the original back nine) will be open for play initially during renovation, with all 18 holes being available beginning July 4th weekend.

     Located in the township of Milburn, the golf course is owned and operated by the City of East Orange. It has been undergoing an extensive renovation by acclaimed golf course architect Stephen Kay. The course was originally designed in 1926 by Tom Bendelow, an architect renowned for making golf accessible and affordable for the public.

     The goal for the renovation is to restore the old-fashioned charm of the golf course that will appeal to players of all abilities, according to Kay. “We are creating a player-friendly and aesthetically appealing golf course that will be affordable and allow for an enjoyable pace of play,” said Kay.

        Two-time defending champion Inbee Park heads a list of 22 major champions who will compete in the 2015 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, June 9-14, at Westchester Country Club, West Course, in Harrison, New York.

Park, who captured back-to-back titles in 2013 and ’14 among her four career majors, will be joined by nine past Women’s PGA Champions: Laura Davies (1994, ’96); Se Ri Pak (1998, ’02, ’06); Juli Inkster (1999, 2000); Karrie Webb (2001); Suzann Pettersen (2007); Yani Tseng (2008, ’11); Anna Nordquist (2009); Cristie Kerr (2010); and Shanshan Feng (2012).

The KPMG Women’s PGA Championship features a $3.5 million purse, among the highest in women’s golf. The Championship will be operated by the PGA of America in partnership with the LPGA.

World No. 1-ranked Lydi Ko will be making her third consecutive Women’s PGA Championship appearance, and second as a professional. She finished third last year.
