This past weekend, two high school seniors, Paolo Matti and Thomas (TJ) Kaczan officially signed onto their Division I colleges, leading the way among NJ golfers to sign with top level college programs.

“Golf is everything,” said Kaczan, who’s been playing since he was 11 years old.  Named 2012 NJ PGA Junior Golf Player of the Year, Kaczan has played in numerous IJGT and AJGA tournaments across the country. He will study Business at CSUB.

“Everyone here has been awesome and really helped me get to where I’m going,” said Kaczan as he picked up the pen to sign the contract.

Matti, a resident of Union County, was the valedictorian at St. Rose of Lima Academy in Milburn in 2009 and now attends St. Peters Preparatory High School in Jersey City.  He has played on the high school golf team and also plays in many New Jersey PGA Junior Golf Tour, New Jersey State Golf Association and Metropolitan Golf Association events. He has finished in the Top 5 among Junior Boys in the NJ PGA Tour for the past two years, and was a 3rd Team All-State player in 2013. He has been an active volunteer with the First Tee of Plainfield for the past four years, and is currently at the “eagle” level in the First Tee program. Paolo will attend Iona College, a Division I private Roman Catholic college in New Rochelle, NY, starting next year.

Thomas (TJ) lives with his family in Clark, NJ, and also attends St. Peters Preparatory High School. He also played football up until middle school, eventually selecting golf as his primary athletic sport. TJ has played in many American Junior Golf Association (AJGA), International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) and NJ PGA and NJSGA events.  In 2012, as a high school sophomore, he was the NJ PGA Junior Player of the Year. TJ has volunteered almost every weekend for the First Tee of Plainfield program for the past several years. He is also at the “eagle” level in the First Tee program. TJ has been selected to play on the golf team and matriculate at California State University at Bakersfield, a Division I program, in the Fall.

The college signing occurred this Saturday, November 15th, at Noon, at the East Coast Sport Plex, 216 Tingley Lane, Edison, NJ.
